Pleasure Dome XI: DIRTY MARY CRAZY LARRY (1974, OV, 35mm) & HITCH-HIKE (1977, DF, 35mm)
The PLEASURE DOME, presented by the cinema collective Zelluloid42, is focusing on kinetics in November: We present you a double feature full of muscle cars, smoking tires, and crazy stunts!
We start with DIRTY MARY CRAZY LARRY (1974), an action-packed road and grindhouse movie whose cast and plot are just as catchy as its title. Unsuccessful Nascar racers Larry (Peter Fonda) and Deke (Adam Roarke) have pulled off a successful heist and are on the run in their car—but then crazy Mary (Susan George) gets in their way.
Things get pretty rough in the second film of the evening. The Italian thriller HITCH-HIKE (1977) features the sleazy sadism of David Hess, who terrorizes a married couple as a hitchhiker. The catholic Filmdienst in Germany reviewed it as a “shabby speculative product.” What else could you want?
