Pleasure Dome: Splatterfilm-Double Feature

Pleasure Dome: Splatterfilm-Double Feature

On November 22, it’s that time again: Welcome to the PLEASURE DOME! This time, we’ve put together an escalating, alien- and zombie-infested splatter film double feature for you. It takes us into the infamous world of micro- to no-budget cinema. A world born out of the sheer joy of filmmaking: with friends, like-minded people, and wild ideas. Get ready for astronomical body counts and handmade mayhem!

In 1987, armed with an old 16mm Bolex camera, 30,000 New Zealand dollars, and a handful of friends and relatives, Peter “Lord of the Rings” Jackson made his genre film debut with BAD TASTE (NZ 1987) - a project he worked on for years, free from the pressure to succeed, but packed with buckets of blood, guts, and a lot of childish whims.

A personal, ironic DIY project and, at the same time, a milestone in international splatter cinema, whose story is quickly told: In Kaihoro, aliens from the fast-food chain Crumb’s Crunchy Delights want to turn human flesh into a best-selling item. The Special Force AIaDS launches a counterattack.

Our SURPRISE FILM for you (90s, on 16mm) also hits hard with its frenzy of DIY creativity and escalating violence. A German counterpart to BAD TASTE, if you will. Similarly revolting and slimy - and clearly a step further down the proverbial rabbit hole.

BAD TASTE: Peter Jackson, NZ 1987, 92 min, OV, 35mm

XXX: ?, DE 1990s, OV, 16mm
