	\n—\n\nJEFF CLARKE / is a seeker. From the rough and ready ministrations o
	f his\nhellraising\, garage-rocking days in Demon's Claws and The Black Li
	ps\, to the\nwounded world-weariness that still cracks through the polish 
	of his lusher\nlatest solo effort "Miracle after Miracle after ..."\, the 
	idiosyncratic gospel\nhe preaches is always shot through with a hard-won r
	esilience\, an uncanny\nnaïveté\, a persistent sense of curiosity.\n\nThe 
	album is\, in contrast to his previous solo work “Locust” (recorded in a\n
	single session in a forest)\, more beautifully embellished\, but never\nov
	erloaded—there is plenty of room for the strangely melancholic voice and\n
	songwriting\, which is finely woven but occasionally also sharply edged.\n
	\nAt its heart\, this is folk music\, and such traditionally excellent son
	gwriting\nmakes comparisons both easy to make and inherently reductive. Cl
	arke is drawing\nfrom the same well as countless other psychic diarist. He
	 could be mentioned in\nthe same breath as Connie Converse\, Daniel Johnst
	on and Atlas Sound\, for\nexample. But Clarke so successfully locates hims
	elf within this tradition of\nartists as to make references redundant\, if
	 not breaking the mold\, then\nstretching it into a shape all his own.\n\n
